Calumet Photographic just announced their shipping cut-off’s for the holiday season –

  • Ground shipping last day 12/15
  • Expedited shipping last day 12/22
Each day through the holiday season, they will be running a “OneShot Daily Deal,” which you can find simply by clicking on the Calumet link to the right of this article; that link will automatically update for you to check out the latest deals.  (You may have to refresh your browser when you get to the Calumet page if you notice that it displays the previous day’s deal; it all depends on how often you visit the Calumet site.)

Each day’s OneShot runs from midnight to midnight (CST) or until the item sells out (whichever comes first), and then it’s over. If you miss purchasing a OneShot special, you’ve missed it. But Calumet tells us, “there will be many more offers in the future.”

pocket wizard set up?

I currently have a 20D, 550EX, and a 420EX. I have been using the 550EX as a master and the 420 as a slave. I now need to both of the flashes off and away from the camera. I will be adding more lights down the road, and don't want to have to change set-ups when i do. What transceivers and cords would i need to connect to the 20D and the two flash units.

You will need three tranceivers. One that connects directly to the hotshoe of the 20D, the others that connect to your two Flashes. (You may be able to just get away with two, and have the third Flash in slave mode, but if they are far away or obstructed, you'll need a transceiver on each one.)

PocketWizards come with all the cords you need.

If you have the new 550EX, you'll be able to use the cable to connect the PW directly to the 550EX. If you have the old version and for the 420EX, you'll need to go to your local camera store and get a little hot-shoe to PC cable adapter.

This is how I use my PocketWizards with my 30D and 550EX. Works great.

  • I have 3 Pocket Wizard Plus II Transceivers. One is in my camera's (Nikon D80) hot shoe, and the other two are in each of my two lights. When I press test on the transceiver in my camera, both lights trigger, but whenever I go to take a picture, my internal flash on the camera still pops up, and whenever I actually press down to take the picture, my lights do not flash. HELP! How do I get my camera to recognize the transceiver that's on the hot shoe so that 1) the internal flash will stop popping up and 2) my lights will flash?!

That is interesting. I have been using Pocket Wizards for years on both my old D100 and both D200's with no problems. I shoot using the 1/250th second flash sync.

Try using a different channel and make sure your built-in flash is on TTL (I once left it on Commander Mode on one of my D200's and my PW didn't work until I put it back to TTL)

  • i have a canon 30d, im confused which is better, canon st-e2 transmitter or the pocket wizard? i see everyone using the pocket wizard during wedding and other functions.. il b using two flash guns. pls help, which product is good for me. and maybe include the price differences of the two. tnx so much!!!!!

go with the xmitter, the proprietary stuff is so awesome, you won't look back. trust me.

    From their website:

"is the WORLD'S most innovative and advanced Digital Radio Triggering system available in the photographic market."

    and this:

"offers True Trigger Confirmation feedback, up to 1600 feet away or more, without the need for signal repeaters or daisy-chained radios."

    WOW!

Oh, yes, you requested a price comparison along with price/performance ratio analysis:

    $289 for the pocket wizard:

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002J3R2M/yahoo-photo05-20/ref=nosim

    $209 for the Canon transmitter:

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&kw=CASTE2&is=REG&Q=&O=productlist&sku=164264

See? You will be saving $80 PLUS the canon is a superior product.

Hope this helps, keep on truckin!

  • My second video in 2 nights.

This brand new set is opened and builds itself. It’s one of the Pocket Money sets numbered 5614.

This is a rather dorky looking wizard – and I much prefer the old sort from the Dragon Knight castles.

  • Pocketwizard on SB-800/900 Setup

This video shows you into depth about how to set up your Pocketwizard connection with one or more Nikon SB-800 / SB-900′s using any Nikon D-SLR system. Be sure to watch the ending, something cool. :)

Another cool tip – you now can use Nikon brand SB-800 / SB-900 as a remote flash when using a Canon brand camera system. Cool, huh?

If you are not so sure how to set up. Here’s the setup for you in simple words,

    • PW #1 on camera (Channel 1 and BOTH mode)
    • PW #2 on one of the SB-800 / SB-900′s (Channel 1 and BOTH mode on PW, no remote setting required such as SU-4 or Remote)
    • All other SB-800 / SB-900′s set for SU-4 (set for M/anual then adjust the flash power input and zoom distance)

You only need TWO Pocketwizards in this setup but if necessary, plug more Pocketwizard units to other SB-800 / SB-900′s for better communication when there are a lot of inferencing objects. Each Pocketwizard unit comes with the cable to plug from PW to SB-800 / SB-900. Have fun!

    Enjoy!
